"Business software maker SAP expanded an initiative to target small and medium-size businesses Tuesday with five new software packages and plans for at least 20 more by the end of the year...SAP also offers software for companies with as few as 10 employees with a product called Business One, which just recently became available in the United States.
My first (admittedly knee-jerk) reaction is "uh-oh."
Then I got wondering whether the relationship that Eli Goldratt (of The Goal fame) has tried to develop with ERP firms has had any beneficial influence yet on the design of such systems and the processes they are supposed to support. If so, maybe this effort isn't the time- and energy-sink I fear.
